Blakes Annual Aboriginal Law Update

Indigenous legal issues continue to be front and centre for many energy, mining, infrastructure and other businesses. Our annual Aboriginal Law Update will focus on BC’s adoption of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA), as well as recent federal developments and court decisions.
We are delighted that this year’s seminar will include a presentation by Doug Caul, Deputy Minister of the B.C. Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. Mr. Caul is a key member of the team that developed the Declaration Act, and his mandate includes the implementation of the act across British Columbia.

We look forward to a lively discussion.

Topics:

  • The B.C. Government’s approach to reconciliation and the implementation of the Declaration Act
  • Other provincial and federal policy and legislative updates
  • Negotiating Indigenous Peoples’ consent in 2020 and beyond
  • Key court decisions from 2019
